An igloo is a snow shelter. The first igloos were built by Inuits, for protection from the cold and harsh weather.
How do you build an igloo?
° Choose a flat spot, where there is plenty of compacted snow.
° Trace out a circle to define the size of your igloo
° Dig down a few centimetres into the snow inside the circle
° Use a snow shovel to cut out blocks of snow (about 50cm long)
° Stack up the blocks around the circumference of the circle, tilting each layer slightly more to the inside, to build the wall.
° Build the wall until your dome is closed.
° Dig an entrance on the leeward side, out of the wind.
° Fill in any gaps or cracks, but leave at least one hole to allow air to circulate.
° Smooth down the inside (wall and floor).
° Make yourself at home.
